The Hermit · What's next

Soon, a quieter chapter. Less social, less reactive, more sourced from within. Resist treating it like a problem — it's the chapter that produces the thing you'll be glad about later.

Upright meaning

The Hermit is solitude with intent. Not because you're avoiding people — because you can't hear yourself with this much noise. The lantern in his hand is the small light of a self-honesty most people don't make time for. When this card lands, you're being asked to take a deliberate step away from the input so you can find the signal again.

He's also the mentor figure, externally or internally. Either you're being guided by someone whose presence asks you to grow, or you're becoming that figure for someone else. The Hermit gives counsel from experience, not from theory.

Practically, the card supports retreat, deep work, journaling, therapy, a quiet weekend, time without your phone. The answer you're after probably won't arrive in the comments. It'll arrive on a walk.

Reversed meaning

Reversed, The Hermit reads as isolation that's started to harden into avoidance. Solitude is a tool; isolation is a wall. The card gently asks whether you're protecting your peace or hiding from your life.

It can also be too much advice — a feed full of voices, too many group chats, taking everyone's input but your own. The Hermit reversed asks you to put down the input pipe and write your own list for a week.

Sometimes this reversal means a guide who was once useful is now keeping you small — a mentor, parent, ex, or therapist whose framework has expired for you. You can keep the respect and still outgrow the role.

Imagery and symbolism

An elderly figure in a gray hooded cloak stands alone holding a lantern with a glowing star and a long staff. The muted gray robes, pale mountains, and small point of yellow light capture the solitude of The Hermit.
